Environmental Impact Assessment
Lôn Las Cefni is a 12 mile off-road cycleway that follows the course of the River Cefni through Malltraeth Marsh from Llangefni (the county town of Anglesey) to the coast. This project has involved major civil engineering works re-profiling the flood banks of the Cefni River. Malltraeth Marsh is a SSSI for its aquatic flora and birds and is one of the key sites in the UK for the fast declining water vole.

Mitigation for this project required translocation of seed bearing silt from the old to the new drainage ditch, trapping and translocation of water voles to suitable habitat and the recreation of high quality water vole habitat on its banks. Side ditches were fenced off to create new water vole habitat and encourage SSSI ditch flora.
