Tywyn Trewan Common is an important remainder of a
once large sand dune system. It is a rare example of a decalcifying
sand plain, which has been saved from intensive agricultural exploitation
and shows a complex mosaic of sand dune, heath and mire communities.
Menter Môn has been working with the Tywyn Trewan Conservators (a
community based committee legally responsible for managing the common),
the commons graziers and the golf course to improve management for
wildlife conservation and to improve public access.
Aims:
- Improve public access by creating paths, way marking, information
boards and a leaflet
- Help graziers to manage grazing of the common
- Introduce programme of gorse burning to conserve dune habitat
& flora and encourage breeding skylark populations.
